Quality sheets – How to choose

To sleep well, the choice of fabrics is crucial. In winter or summer, it does not matter, there are materials suitable for every season that provide comfort and ensure the optimal temperature at night. Soft, light, with a processing that gives pleasant sensations to the touch. Choose your favorites, let yourself be enveloped by the fabrics you love the most and enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep. Look here for sheets for adjustable beds.

Flannel sheets

Characterized by the typical soft and slightly cuddly surface on one or both sides, cotton flannel is one of the warmest and softest fabrics ever. Resistant but light, thanks to its special processing it retains air well, acting as an excellent thermal insulator. A few years ago the so called HOT COTTON flannel came on the market, which is nothing but shaved flannel. This product guarantees the same heat as the traditional one but does not leave any hair around and remains thinner to the touch.

Linen sheets

The combination of linen and cotton allows to obtain a mixed fabric, resistant and able to absorb and release a large amount of moisture in a short time. Linen-blend sheets, besides being the ideal choice for lovers of natural fibres, with the right blanket, are also perfect in winter. The hand of linen and linen blend is a little rougher than traditional cotton, a feeling reminiscent of the past.

Cotton sheets

If you prefer a more even surface, opt for 100% pure cotton sheets. Lightweight, wash resistant, cotton is able to absorb moisture and provide freshness in the summer months and warmth in the cold season. Beware of cottons of unknown or imported brands, in fact there are regulations that allow the wording of pure cotton on the label even if it actually reaches 90%.

Cotton percale sheets

Perchal is a fabric obtained from the interweaving of very thin and dense yarns, which give a velvety feeling on the skin. These sheets are more precious than pure cotton, fresh and resistant. Their versatility makes them excellent for all seasons. The real percale the one for which the satisfaction in use will be greater is when the threads are over 60 per square centimeter.

Satin sheets

Very fine, with a shiny silk-like surface and uniform, the cotton satin will make your bed shine in style. In addition, it is hypoallergenic and able to regulate body temperature according to the seasons, giving you freshness in the summer and warmth in winter. attention to the polyester satin fabric unsuitable for sheets because it is charged with electrostatic electricity and sleeping on it I assure you it is not the best.

Thread Dyed Sheet

The characteristic feature of yarn-dyed fabrics is the yarn dyeing. This means that the patterns (designs) are obtained by weaving dyed yarns instead of printing on a raw fabric. In this way the colours are more intense, penetrate deeply and last much longer, even after years of washing.

In addition, the patterns are sharper and identical on both sides of the fabric.

This is why dyed sheets do not need a bedspread during the summer period. They don’t have a reverse side so they always look good wherever you turn them.

The right care for your sheets

All cotton garments are very versatile and easy to wash. For whites and colours, a 40° or 60° C programme with specific detergents will be sufficient to eliminate germs.

In particular, cotton flannel sheets should be washed inside out to prevent the appearance of lint. For cotton satin sheets, it is preferable to use a gentle centrifuge at low temperatures (max 40°C) and avoid spreading them in the sun so as not to discolour them.

Washing sheets

Don’t overfill the washing machine. This way the garments have more space, do not iron and the washing process is easier and safer.
Turn the sheets inside out to protect the fibres and prevent lint from forming.

Quality products do not need fabric softeners. Use may ruin the weave and irritate your skin.

If possible, use a tumble dryer. Put tennis balls inside and your garments will be softer and wrinkle less.

Read the manual of your washing machine to make sure you choose the specific programme and the right amount of detergent.

How to distinguish quality sheets

There is no single criterion for determining the quality of the sheets. Among the most important are the length of the fibre, on which the thickness of the yarn also depends: i.e., the longer the length of the fibres, the thinner and better the quality of the yarn. Other decisive elements in terms of comfort are the processing, the weft, the final finish and the number of threads of the fabric itself.

Number of threads

Yarn density is defined by the number of threads, in English Thread Count (TC), per square centimetre or square inch of fabric. The higher the number of threads, the denser the fabric is, i.e. compact, soft and durable. But be careful, in addition to the number of threads, the quality of the thread itself must be taken into account. For a high quality yarn, fewer threads are sufficient to obtain high-quality sheets.
